A: Unfortunately, this is not a service we provide. The best value for your home is either to replace or renovate your cabinets. It is important to evaluate the integrity of your boxes before making this decision. For refinishing, all components must be in good condition, including the doors, drawer faces, and cabinets. For refacing, it’s okay if the doors and drawer faces are damaged or outdated because they’ll be replaced.
No matter which option you choose, the cabinets and drawer boxes will remain when refinishing or refacing, so they must be in sound condition and good working order. Use this checklist to determine if your cabinets are a good candidate for refinishing or refacing.
- Inspect the inside of each cabinet for signs of structural damage, such as cracked side panels or loose joints. Poke around inside the cabinet with an awl or pocketknife. If you discover any soft, spongy areas, that could be an indication of wood rot or water damage.
- Be sure the upper cabinets are securely fastened to the walls and to each other.
- Check base cabinets for water damage, especially under the sink. The bottom of the cabinets should be firm and flat, not sagging or dislodged.
- Be sure that all fixed shelves are securely attached and not cracked, loose, or warped.
- Check each drawer to ensure it rolls smoothly, opens fully and closes completely. Remove the drawers from the cabinets and inspect the structural integrity of each one. The corner joints should be tight and strong. The drawer bottoms must be secured within the drawer box and not cracked or sagging badly.
- The drawer slides—whether made of metal or wood—must be firmly attached and in sound condition. Check the slides for loose or missing fasteners, and damaged or worn-out parts.
Once you’ve assessed your cabinets and determined they’re in good shape, you can consider refacing or replacing your existing doors otherwise all your hard work will be wasted.
A: Refacing involves replacing the old doors and drawers faces with brand-new ones as well as adding applied panels on exposed edges and possibly re-edging certain cabinet boxes.
Refinishing cabinets involves removing existing doors and drawers faces, sanding, or stripping off the old finish and applying a new paint or stain to the doors, drawers faces, side panels and any exposed cabinets.
Whether you are thinking of either refacing or refinishing, cost comparison is suggested. Get a quote for anew kitchen, refacing and refinishing and make the comparison of what works best for your family.
Of course, due to its complexity, kitchen renovations can be among the most expensive. Learn how much you can expect to pay for your kitchen renovation. Remember that a kitchen renovation is one of the greatest home improvement projects you can do in terms of return on investment (ROI). According to a widely quoted assessment by the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC), a kitchen renovation will boost your home value and give you an ROI between 75 and 100 per cent of what you spend. Keep this fact in mind as you go about setting your budget.
Q: How much should I budget for a new kitchen?
Before you can start planning your kitchen renovation, you need to have a clear budget in place. Having a budget will help to determine how much you can accomplish, the materials you can afford, how much professional help you will need and what the final product will look like. Moving ahead without a budget could result in your project being left half finished or you are going into debt to finish it.
Depending on the scale of your renovation, you can expect to roughly spend the following:
• Minor: $13,000 to $19,000
• Mid-range: $20,000 to $39,000
• Major: $40,000+
You should also set aside 15% to 20% of your total budget for any unexpected problems. This could include issues such as plumbing, electrical, structural, and/or pest or toxic material problems.
A: Painted finishes are solid, opaque colour applications on both wood and/or MDF that do not reveal any grain characteristics.
Due to the natural expansion and contraction of solid wood doors, a painted finish may emphasize the joinery whereas an MDF door will remain consistent in overall appearance.

Here are some tips on how to plan the perfect space:
Plumbing and Electrical
- Redoing any of the plumbing of electrical?
- If you are not planning on moving the water and drains, the location of these appliances will already be decided for you. you would like to move them, then be prepared to have plumbing and electrical costs. Consider the following:
- Your sink requires a potable water supply as well as a drain
- Dishwasher requires a hot water supply and drain access
- Modern fridges also may need water supply
- Your stove will require either a 220-volt electric or gas hookup
Stove placement
Placing your stove, whether electric or gas, against an exterior wall allows for simpler installation of your ventilation system. However, if you are set on having a gas range in a central island, this is possible, but will just mean additional ventilation costs
Distance and Clear Paths
Working in a cramp space is far from Zen, it is important to keep a flowing path surrounding your kitchen
Keeping the distance between appliances in mind is also a great tip as you don’t want to be walking half a mile from your counter prep space to your fridge every time you need something. Our goal is creating a space that optimizes your room utilization and your quality of motion.
Installation timelines vary pending on the size and customization of your kitchen space. A standard kitchen with laminate installation typically is complete within 2 days.
